Communications Minister Receives AI Summit Report

The Digital Media Foundation (DMF) has officially summited the comprehensive report on the Nepal National Summit on Artificial Intelligence 2024 to the Honorable Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Mr. Prithvi Subba Gurung. DMF founder Prabesh Subedi handed over the document at the ministry, anticipating that the insights shared in the summit would support government efforts in drafting policies and regulations aligned with Nepal’s AI aspirations.

Minister Gurung expressed his gratitude for the Foundation’s proactive approach to exploring the significance of AI for Nepal’s future. He highlighted the report as a valuable policy resource for the ministry, offering essential feedback and direction. “The outcomes of this summit provide significant insights that align with our ministry’s core policy objectives,” he said.

The report consolidates pivotal points discussed by keynote speakers, guest experts, and from the summit’s panel discussions. The summit, held on June 15 at Hotel Himalaya in Lalitpur, joined over 250 attendees, bringing together key stakeholders from government, industry, and academia. Organized by DMF in partnership with the Internet Society Nepal Chapter (Open Internet Nepal), and strategically supported by UNESCO’s Kathmandu Office and Digital Rights Nepal, the event delivered deep dives into three core panels.

The summit was designed to address AI’s rapidly growing influence on sectors like media, public service, and governance, and included both an opening and closing session along with addresses from distinguished speakers.
